Busia District has witnessed a political turning point. In a tightly contested race, Anyango Janet Hope Webby Nasirwa has emerged victorious in the NRM primaries for Woman Member of Parliament (2025), defeating 10 other contenders — including the incumbent, Auma Hellen Wandera (Obudidi).
Anyango polled 28,866 votes, securing 38.4% of the total ballots cast, while Auma Hellen garnered 26,710 votes (35.5%), marking a significant shift in local political dynamics.

Who is Anyango Janet Hope?
Born in Busitema Subcounty, Syanyonja Parish, and now residing in Dabani Subcounty, Anyango is a community-rooted leader. She is married to Bwire Webby, a grandson of the late Mzee Lumala Omutabona (RIP) of Busime and Majanji, from the Abade clan.
She completed all levels of her education within Busia, concluding A-Levels at Dabani Girls. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Postgraduate Diploma in Physiology.

With 9 years of experience in banking, Anyango brings financial and leadership experience to the political arena. She is also a committed farmer, involved in poultry and animal rearing, contributing to local food production and income generation.
