 Tragedy on the Road: Busia Mourns Faruku and Friends After Fatal Kapchorwa Crash

Busia has been plunged into mourning after a devastating road accident claimed the lives of several young men, including the beloved Faruku,



in a crash that occurred on Saturday, 17th May 2025, in Kapchorwa District.

The group was returning from a wedding ceremony, heading back to Busia, when tragedy struck. Their vehicle, known around town as “Fast and Furious,” lost control at high speed and crashed, killing everyone on board. The remains were taken to Bulambuli Hospital Mortuary as news of the tragedy spread like wildfire across the region.

Faruku, a celebrated driver, was behind the wheel that day. He was well-known and deeply respected not just for his driving skills, but for his warmth, humility, and vibrant personality. He worked at the Customs Yard in the clearance department, a position he took pride in, and through which he made countless friendships both within Busia and beyond.

Hon. Wanyama Kennedy, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Busia Municipality on the NUP ticket, is among the Busia residents who traveled to Kapchorwa to help retrieve the bodies. His support during this time of sorrow has brought comfort to many and reinforced a sense of unity within the community.

The vigil is currently being held in Arubaine, Busia Town, where friends, family, and fellow residents are gathering to honor and remember the lives lost. Burial will take place in Bugiri District, where Faruku’s final journey will end among loved ones.

This tragedy has left a gaping wound in the heart of Busia. Faruku wasn’t just a driver—he was a brother, a friend, a colleague, and a young man with a bright future. His untimely death, and that of his companions, serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of speeding and the fragility of life.

As candles are lit and prayers are whispered in Arubaine, one thing is clear: Busia will never forget Faruku. His laughter, his dedication at work, and the way he made everyone feel like family will forever remain in our hearts.
